Family Stories - Aaron

Aaron was born in September 2007 blue, floppy and not breathing – it took 22 minutes to resuscitate him – the longest minutes of our lives.

He was ventilated then immediately taken to another hospital to undergo ‘Toby Therapy’, a treatment to cool the body down and allow the brain to recover from any trauma.. The consultants didn’t think he was going to pull through. But he did and at 4½ months, after much testing, he was diagnosed.

We had 2 attempts at staged discharge; but each time Aaron became unwell and went into respiratory and cardiac arrest; we feared we would never get him home.

We finally asked for a tracheostomy and it was the best thing we ever did for him. His life is so much more fulfilled now.

He is ventilated 24 hours a day but enjoys his life so much more. His movement is progressing tremendously and we can finally see the light, and getting him home.

Aaron enjoys playing...messy play is his favourite. We simply hope for a cure
