Fundraising - Myotubular Trust Christmas Concert

The snow fell on Friday 17th December and St Luke’s Church looked like an idyllic scene from a Christmas card for the first Myotubular Trust candlelit Christmas concert.

Everyone arrived to the sounds of the bagpipe player at the church entrance and we were welcomed with a warm glass of mulled wine and freshly baked mince pies. A wonderful team of volunteers from Cap Gemini Consulting were serving, along with our surprise guest, Mark Owen of
'Take That'.

Then, in the beautiful candlelit church we were treated to a lovely programme of music, carols and readings courtesy of an array of talented people who donated their time and expertise, in support of the Trust. Medici choir opened the concert with their beautiful rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus; their voices sounded glorious in the high roofed church. There were moments when you could hear a pin drop; most notably during the breathtaking rendition of Ave Maria sung by the Trust’s old friend, mezzo soprano, Friederike Krum. In contrast, we all had an opportunity to join in with some uplifting carols, lead by John Baird, local conductor and composer. The music, which was accompanied by a superb quartet from the Royal Opera House, was interspersed with a number of readings by the actor, Michael Maloney, BBC newsreader, Louise Minchin and Mark Owen, along with a welcome from Anne Lennox of the Myotubular Trust.

Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the concert and it was most certainly the perfect way to get in to the spirit of Christmas.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Friederike Krum, soprano Lucy Barker, Medici Choir, John Baird, Sophia Durrant, Marion DeFlammineis, Andrea DeFlammineis, Andrew Staples, Louise Minchin, Michael Maloney, Derek Carden and Mark Owen who made the evening so moving and incredibly special. We are so grateful to them all for having donated their time, expertise and passion to make the event so magical.

We would also like to thank the many volunteers who arranged and supported the event and made it possible. We have had the most amazing feedback from so many of the guests who came along, many of whom are already asking whether there will be another concert this year!

Medici Choir will be performing Brahm's Requiem at St Martin in the Fields on March 31st at 7.45pm.

Thank you.
