BOURNEMOUTH MARATHON IN MEMORY OF WILL
Two long standing supporters, Duncan Collins and Roberta Taylor, took part in the Bournemouth Marathon in memory of Will...

Two longstanding supporters took part in the Bournemouth Marathon in memory of Will on a lovely Sunday morning in October.

Will’s aunt, Berty, and his father, Duncan, both took on the challenge and did themselves proud with great finishing times.

Duncan told us, “The key highlight for me was the support from so many people most of whom never met Will. I think our boys strike home the fragility of life. It was that support that carried me when my legs were too tired.

I ran the Marathon for three great charities that all made a difference to our sons' life who sadly lost his battle with Myotubular Myopathy. The Myotubular Trust - researching for a cure for X-linked Myotubular Myopathy; Gully’s place - a ground breaking initiative by Poole Hospital (every children’s ward needs one); and Julia’s House – a wonderful local children’s hospice. All money raised will be shared equally among them.”

Berty told us, “I ran the Bournemouth marathon in October in memory of my little nephew Will. It was my second marathon but training was hard, especially with a dose of lady flu on the run up to it. I made it round in just over 5 hours (next time I want to make it in under!) with massive relief at the finish line.

Supporting Myotubular Trust provides me with the motivation needed to complete the marathon, whilst remembering all the special memories of Will. I only hope that other supporters completing other events feel the same satisfaction.”

Duncan and Berty raised an amazing amount in sponsorship and we would like to send our thanks and congratulations to them both, and to their supporters who sponsored them and shouted words of encouragement on the day.
