'Messing About' Raises Cash

On Saturday 25th September, the Pangbourne Water Rats (Kat & Nick Syfret, John South and Matilda Oppenheimer) took part in the Great River Race in their skiff 'Messing About' in support of Help for Heroes and the Myotubular Trust.

The Great River Race, London’s River Marathon, is a spectacular boat race up London’s River Thames that attracts around 300 crews from around the globe and is open to every level of competitor from those who enjoy fun, fancy dress and charity stunts, to serious sports men and women whose aim is to win. It is a great day out for competitors and spectators alike. For further information about the event, please visit http://www.greatriverrace.co.uk/

The Pangbourne Water Rats rowed 23 miles in their Skiff, ‘Messing About’ from the Isle of Dogs to Richmond, finishing an impressive 148th out of 321 boats.

We are told that it was a great day and that the crew are now considering modifications to their boat given that the rudder came out three times during the race and that it was rather difficult slotting it back in as they were tossed up and down by the waves near HMS Belfast!

Our thanks go to Kat, Nick, John and Matilda for their fantastic support.
