Shakespeare House of Chesham Grammar School, Bucks raises a whopping £1,864.85 in just a week, for the Myotubular Trust!
Every year, Chesham Grammar invites House pupils to nominate a charity to benefit from their fundraising during charity week. In September last year, Adam Allright kindly nominated our charity to his school, Chesham Grammar, to help our Schools Campaign.
Adam was inspired to nominate the charity because his long-standing friend, Zak, was born with x-linked myotubular myopathy. Adam, who has watched his friend Zak battle with physical difficulties and especially through teenage when Zak lost his physical independence and ability to walk and stand: decided he wanted to do something positive to help his friend and other children like him. Since knowing Zak, Adam and his family, Donna, Steve and Hollie, have done a wealth of things to help raise much-needed funds to help find a cure for this rare condition which affects their friend. This has ranged from successful chilli and wine nights, to half marathons, to fun runs (mainly in silly outfits) and, more recently, with Adam nominating the charity at his school.
Adam gave a compelling first hand account of the condition and how it affects his friend Zak at his House Assembly which resulted in a unanimous decision for Shakespeare House to get behind the charity and raise as much money as they could to help the children affected by myotubular myopathy.
The fundraising was overseen by Mr Spittle, and the Heads of Shakespeare House, Ed and Ally, kept Myotubular Trust very well informed with what was taking place to raise funds. A fantastic number of events took place during the School’s Charity Week in October: with the pupils and staff arranging a barbecue, curry lunches, a guitar heros competition, cake sales, and even a football match between pupils vs staff! Great fun was had by everyone, and the fantastic bonus was that this resulted in the school raising a blinding £1,864.85 for the Myotubular Trust!
We would like to extend a massive thanks to Adam, and all the members of his House, Shakespeare, who worked so hard to make their charity week such a success. Also, our thanks go to Steve Allright for being our proxy, and Ed and Ally for keeping us posted with news.
Thank you for taking us to your hearts and supporting us so well. We are deeply proud of what you have all achieved in just a week, and hope that you are too!
